Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia

The first years in Great Moravia (863 - 867) Review

In 863 or 864 (according to the tradition 5th of July 863),in Great Moravia came the two brothers Constantine (= Cyril) and Methodius. The philosopher Constantine specifically developed the first Slavic alphabet - Glagolitic for this mission and brought with him a symbol of the Byzantine double cross (which is now in the coat of arms of Slovakia), chose the socalled OldSlаvonic (= old Church Slavonic), that was the cultivated Macedonian language in the environs of Thessalonika, which was used during the mission and where he brought with him the first translations of liturgical and biblical texts that were previously prepared with Methodius.
